annashafffer Happy international day of what it means to want equality of pay, and power and discourse. Of feminism, as I know it to be.. intersectional, malleable, an evolution of ideas that champion the marginalised and vulnerable. Especially this week where again we have had to entertain conversations that shine a spotlight on what it means to be a womxn. I stand with all those who identify as that and also those who don’t, and especially trans and non binary people whose validity of existence will always be as paramount as my own. A day to be grateful for the friendships in my life that facilititate my very being..whether it be WhatsApp groups dedicated to pictures of very cute babies, meme accounts and whole phone conversations mapping the future of Lauren and Cameron, a glass of wine or five and a natter after a rough day or a walk through this glorious city to clear the cobwebs and let the sunshine in. Speakers turned up high and Beyoncé on repeat. Our God. Happy Sunday to you all, may tomorrow be a little bit better than today.

annashafffer I can’t stop thinking about that wonderful Maya Angelou quote: “when someone shows you who they are the first time, believe them”. The conservatives have been showing us who they are for nearly a decade. Austerity is who they are. Dismantling of public service is who they are. Liars is who they are, literally liars. Racist is who they are. And since calling the election, Boris Johnson has shown us that he is a fucking coward. Today is seismically important, when they have continually shown us they they do not care about us how can we vote them back into office? It doesn’t make sense to me. I’m a South African Jew, my mum from black farmland and my dad from the Jewish innercity. We weren’t brought up religious but we were brought up political. And always Labour. I abhor the way that Labour have dealt with anti-semitism in the party. It is a fact, a shameful fact that Jeremy Corbyn failed on this and it makes my vote today not a tribal vote but a vote that is clearly against what the conservatives show themselves to be. If you remove tribalism from your politics though and you look deep into what Labour has promised then you can see that the manifesto radically offers change. A real chance to invest in welfare and public service once more and to begin to tackle the climate emergency that will destroy our future in tragic tandem if we allow further Tory rule. It’s time for change. A vote for Labour today is a vote for hope, let’s DO this. 🌹 ❤️ #wantchangevotelabour #votebabyvote

annashafffer De-ja-vu. Last night, the ITV leaders debate was a sobering reminder that Boris Johnson is a liar. The debate was framed around Brexit, and every other question somehow spun its way back around to the B word but make no mistake this election is not about Brexit. Austerity kills and people are dying at the hands of a Tory government. This election is not about Brexit, it’s about life or death. The only decision you need to make is whether or not to have blood on your hands. Please, if you haven’t already, register to vote. It is, quite simply, a life line.

annashafffer Eyyyyy what a gorgeous day to exercise your democratic right to VOTE. Today feels viscerally important, we’ve waded through this shit show blindly for long enough and I’ve been angry, then apathetic and then, quite frankly, nihilistic about the future..but there IS power in energising today and putting your hand up to be counted. As a life long card carrying member of the Labour Party I feel pissed off and backed into a corner by the embarrassing few years we’ve watch unfold... no, crumble...but tbh we’ve been ruled by tribalism for too long and today I’m just voting clearly against Brexit and fascism. Full stop. Let’s vote tactically. Let’s protect the freedoms we still have. Let’s vote with our guts, because really what’s else is left at this point.
