asiakatedillon So lucky to welcome Jen Anaya (they/them) to the cast of #OrchidReceiptService 🎉
Jen Anaya is an AZ born theatre/music/art-maker, rump shaker, doula, baby whisperer, healer and agent of love and light. They have performed all over the city, country and world, in everything from rock bands, healing rituals, web series and art installations to plays, operas, films and musicals. Favorite moments include Tamar of The River, Hatuey: Memory of Fire, Casa Blue: The Last Moments In The Life Of Frida Kahlo, and Lilleth Glimcher's You There. Jen is currently having the time of their life performing with Constellation Chor (which just got back from performing in Greece and has a residency at Spectrum this year) and is beyond honored to be a part of Orchid Receipt Service. Love, light and much thanks to the team, to my tribe and my family. Los amo hasta la luna. "I learned about Orchid Receipt Service from Rad (@______rad___ ), who told me they wanted me to audition. Reading the character descriptions made me smile so hard. A play about TGNC humans that didn't center around death, violence or sadness was so refreshing, and made me so happy. I've worked for decades to fit into a mold created by the binary and as I become more honest about myself with myself, have found it harder and harder to fit into that mold. The audition for ORS was the first time I've shown up to an audition as me. Fully, 100% me. No dressing or make-up to look like someone else's idea of a person. Just me. What a relief. What a joy. To be included in this beautiful piece means the world and I'm so excited to help bring it to life.
A recurring dream has me breathing underwater. I'm a being that lives underwater. At first I panic, because I'm afraid of drowning, but then I realize I'm ok. I'm meant to be here. It helped a lot recently when I was drowning in a river in Greece. I panicked for a second before I heard the voice from my dream say, Relax. I did, and was kicked to the surface. I couldn't breathe, but then I heard it again say, Relax, so I relaxed my throat and lungs and slowed my heartbeat and began to breathe a little at a time. It was miraculous."
