A lot of these homes were damaged or washed away by dangerous and intense flooding after I left. It’s normal to have dry and rainy seasons… but the tribe I was living with said it was becoming more and more extreme each year. #climatechange #itainthyperbolicyall

ashleigh_cummingsExcerpt from eco-age article: “Later in life, I acquired an even deeper respect and connection to the environment by spending my time between jobs living amongst tribal communities in Africa, where one’s relationship with the land is direct, and often at the heart of life itself… The Masaai tribe I was living with in Kenya was experiencing issues such as suicide and alcohol addiction in the face of climate change. Their cattle (aka their means of survival) were dying of starvation due to an unprecedented drought in the region. Later, I worked at a wildlife rehabilitation centre in the Zambian jungle where I helped to raise and reintegrate a sick monkey, Nova, whose mother was killed by poachers. And with a nomadic Berber tribe in the Moroccan Sahara (pictured), I garnered a newfound sense of humility regarding my place in this vast, vast planet.
In these landscapes, the architecture of axioms and beliefs we’ve erected around who we think we are and what we think we need simply fall away.. and life is distilled down into its most essential state. It’s just you and the planet and its inhabitants, and honouring and celebrating those extraordinary aspects of life is what matters most.” This photo was taken at dawn on a hazy, winter morn in the Sahara. The family and I herded their goats for 7 - 9 hours a day in search of food (argan trees) and water (our only water supply - an oasis “well” 2 hours away which contained disturbingly brown, viscous water).

I’m compulsively honest about my thoughts on performances - which isn’t always ideal... 😕). @aaronjakubenko is one of the most tireless and conscientious actors I know regarding his work ethic, his grand endeavor towards empathy (the cornerstone of acting!) and in the abundance of love, generosity and support he shows to his fellow cast and crew. I know how immense his heart is, how deeply he cares about the craft, his characters and his colleagues, because I hear about it every night after work, and I’ve never encountered a passion so fervent and pure! That set is so unique and special because of every individual member who contributes beyond the confines of their jobs with such passion and kinship. I also know that much of this energy is radiated from the legendary 'Outrageous Fortune', and I am so grateful to be a part of this family. Thank you for welcoming me into it, and though I will never be the same version of (the ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! Genuinely obsessed with and so empowered by this woman...) Robyn Malcolm's "Cheryl", I did my best to honour her in the time that I had whilst serving the story during Rita's reign!
