michaelangaranoi’m very humbled to share this behind the scenes video from #Dollface. when @jweissy @harperdill and @katdenningsss told me there was only one person they wanted to play Steve the Stripper bc there was only one person they knew who could physically do the splits, i was touched. i may have torn my hamstring or something around my upper thigh/hip area doing it, so i was happy that we got a few takes in the can first. @dollfaceonhulu is streaming now...
michaelangaranoohhh look who it is sitting right behind me completely randomly at an awards show in which we were both nominated who i also happen to be in love with 😭❤️💨
michaelangaranohere’s a picture from @nicholasbraun’s personal collection of @adelaideclemensraddles @graynorari and myself making AVENUES, which is the film I wrote and directed that is now on @amazonprimevideo and @tubi .... fyi we shot this scene from outside the restaurant and needed to order actual drinks and food in so we could shoot there.
michaelangaranoi still find it crazy to be included with this cast and crew. it really is a special group of people. thank you to the @televisionacad for the nomination and thank you @nbcthisisus for letting me be a part of the family. #ThisIsUs #Emmys

michaelangaranoAbout 10 years ago my sister Kristen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when she was 24 years old. a decade later, she’s maintained her health and has been working with the National MS Society to help raise money and awareness. last year, she helped raise over $50,000 through attendance and a silent auction at the MS Summer Soiree. let’s try and top it this year. come to the MS Summer Soiree on 8.15 in LA. link for tix in the bio. #multiplesclerosis #nationalmssociety #elbfightsms
michaelangaranoi am truly grateful for this. congratulations to @nbcthisisus and the cast and crew on all of their nominations. so honored to be a part of it.
michaelangaranoI wrote AVENUES when I was 21 years old. I’m 31 now. it’s taken the last 10 years of my life to make this movie. I’ve woken up many mornings thinking it would never see the light of day. this is not uncommon with small movies. or big movies for that matter. i’m a very, very lucky and privileged person to have been in a position to make something I wrote. thank you so much to everyone who has reached out saying they watched the movie - it means everything to have something that came from a such a personal place be relatable to other people. AVENUES is out on VOD and @itunes and @amazonprimevideo. link in the bio.
michaelangaranoso as previously outlined in the last several posts, this movie was hard to make. this is not uncommon for small movies - or big movies, for that matter. BUT one of the truly joyous creative experiences of my life, was working with this man, the editor of the film, Max Goldblatt (@tothemaxxx). Max came recommended through several people, and when we met he was considering not being an editor because he is somewhat of a renaissance man. to say we hit it off is an very large understatement. true story: people who met us as we edited and frolicked around NY would ask if we were a “comedy duo.” there was a period of time where I had to leave in the middle of editing and when I came back a week later Max showed me 25 minutes that he cut on his own. I had no notes - it was shocking. it was as if the movie just existed. he’s one of my closest friends and I hope to make many more movies with him. AVENUES is out on VOD, @itunes and @amazonprimevideo. link in bio.
michaelangaranoAdelaide Clemens is my favorite kind of actor. she’s someone who has a very real ability to make moments magical - moments that were not even written or discussed - but moments that happen when you’re open to making mistakes; she takes risks. it was a little intimidating directing her, because I felt like she would have been able to see through my own little tics and tricks. she’s inspiring to watch. as it turns out, Adelaide had never ice skated before so you’re looking at very real fear on her face here. AVENUES is out on VOD, @itunes and @amazonprimevideo now - link in bio.
michaelangaranoAri Graynor and I did a PBS pilot together when we were 9 years old, called “Willoughby’s Wonders.” we hadn’t seen each other in over 20 years when we randomly bumped into each other at an open house. we spoke for a little bit and exchanged numbers, promising each other we’d hang out. a few months later, i’d get the money for AVENUES, 3 weeks after going out to financiers - an insanely short response time - and we needed to cast it. this picture encapsulates why I was so lucky Ari said yes to this. many times during filming, when so many things went wrong, I would look to her like a deer in the headlights and she would smile that smile at me, and it’d make me feel a whole lot better. she’s not on instagram. well she kind of is, but she’ll probably never see this. she’s incredibly special and I’m so lucky to have her in my life. AVENUES is out on @itunes, @amazonprimevideo and VOD now - click link in bio to order.
michaelangaranoone of my best friends Nicholas Braun (@nicholasbraun). we met each other on Sky High when we were 15 years old and have done 3 movies together since then. when I wrote this script I had no idea what it was or that I would maybe one day be able to make it - I just thought it was something I could share with my friends. I called Nick and asked if he would read it with me to hear it out loud. cut to us about 6 years later shooting the movie in NYC in the middle of a polar vortex, making no money, Nick limping around without a big toenail, probably the smallest production either of us have worked on, but both of us knowing we’re doing something we’d be proud of. I couldn’t have done this without him, but more importantly, I wouldn’t want to. AVENUES is out on VOD, @itunes and @amazonprimevideo now - link in the bio.
michaelangaranoAVENUES - out today on VOD and @itunes. I wrote it when I was 21 and made it when I was 26. making this movie has been by far the most challenging and rewarding of my life. I’m so relieved that I can finally share it. click on the link to order now and please feel free to send me a message or comment after you watch it. I love this movie and I’m so grateful to have been able to make it.
michaelangaranoi’d like to take this opportunity to thank this man @impockets for asking to take a picture with Michael Cera and I in what looks like an Albertsons about 10 years ago. Mike composed the music in AVENUES and his score is one of the things I’m most proud of. a lot of people don’t know this, but he’s a great musician. I knew he was recently teaching himself to play the piano, so when I made this tonal short for Avenues I asked Mike if he would look at it to score. what he came up with for the short, ended up being the actual score of the film. I’ve been listening to Mike’s score on repeat for the last six years, and I’m so happy others will be able to now as well. AVENUES comes out tomorrow on VOD.
michaelangaranohere’s a fun fact about @nicholasbraun ... on day 4 of shooting AVENUES, Nick called me from the doctors office, saying that he thinks the shoes he was wearing caused an ingrown toe nail on his big toe, and the doctor had to rip the nail off. i said “oh boy, ok. that sounds painful. can you walk?” he said “umm, not really. kinda.” now this was very distressing news considering we only had 11 days to shoot movie and the majority of the scenes are of us walking and talking through New York. i said “don’t worry, we’ll figure it out.” Nick said ”oh yeah, I have to wear a cast on my leg.” “the whole leg?!” i asked. Nick said “no mostly the ankle.” i thought ok, well we might be a little bit screwed but we can frame it out. or if it’s a black cast we could shoot it from far away. no problem. the next morning i show up bright and early to Washington Square Park - where i learn a protest is happening at 10 AM cutting our shooting time in half - only to find Nick with his foot wrapped in a bright, neon pink cast . i said “FRIGGEN PINK?! WHY IS THE CAST PINK?!” Nick said it was the only color they had - which to this day i find very difficult to believe. when you watch the scene in the film and Nick asks Adelaide, “Do you wanna sit?” now you know why. AVENUES is out 3/12 on VOD - click the link the bio to preorder on @itunes

michaelangaranothis is very exciting and sort of surreal. i read @theplaylistnation all the time. i‘m starting to realize that i’ve taken publicity for films i’ve worked on for granted, because every little piece of press or a write up for AVENUES genuinely excites me. click on link bio to preorder ...

michaelangaranoso this is Day 1 of AVENUES (out on VOD and select theaters 3/12, click on link for the trailer). call time was at some ungodly hour, 430 AM i think. we didn’t have trailers and the only place open was Dunkin Donuts across the street - so that’s where we changed and did hair & make up. i wrote the script when i was 21, and the Indian Restaurant MILON in the Lower East Side, was where i wrote it for. a year prior to production, i shot footage of all the locations i wrote into the script, and i told the manager of Milon that we would be back in a year to film a real movie. when we came back a year later he actually remembered me and gave us a good rate. what we didn’t know was that the sidewalk outside of Milon was under construction and would be unfilmable for sound. construction would start at 9AM, cutting our shooting time in half. this photo is from the personal collection of @nicholasbraun xo
michaelangaranoi can finally share the poster for AVENUES, the film i wrote and directed - link to the trailer is in my bio. AVENUES comes out on VOD and in select theaters on 3/12!! check out the trailer and let me know what you think...
michaelangaranoso here i am in the middle of shooting “Avenues,” the film that i wrote and directed during Christmas break in New York. i’m waiting for the police department to show up because production had just gotten shut down by the MTA for not having the proper permit to film on a train platform - it was one of three times production got shut down during filming. we were a very small movie and we didn’t have the money for the proper permits the city requires to film in certain locations. in this instance though, NYPD showed up and after i explained to the officer what we were doing there and pleaded with him to let us shoot for 2 hours, he said, “Didn’t you play in the movie ‘Sky High?’” i responded, “Yes. Yes I did.” he nodded and then he said, “You got an hour.” we ended up shooting the very last scene of the film in 45 minutes. more to come on “Avenues” very soon xo
