valkilmerofficialThe strength and courage of indigenous people is one we should all be grateful for. Native Americans have always held a deep respect for the land and for our connection to this planet. Striving to live in harmony and spiritual enlightenment. Taking only what was needed, and to thank every animal, plant or thing that was used. They were conservationists long before this became necessary. I proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with my Native American sisters and brothers. In America, I’ve been adopted by two tribes besides my own, Cherokee. I've also been blessed by two tribes with names and ceremonies in South Africa and an aboriginal family in Australia. I feel so humbled by the recognition offered me by a people who’s abuses are more and more coming to light and we all hold the prayer that the confidence in grace and honorable behavior will hold sway over the greed and corruption that has so long held sway over our better natures. One day, soon, kindness and the gentle reminding mirror that we can all learn and become better from these deeply sophisticated cultures and that future generations will bring us greater compassion and empathy.

valkilmerofficialBoy how time flies when you’re having fun. I can barely contain myself with the tremendous response to @helmelstudios . And the upcoming works from @hrnjakart . His ability to work so adeptly in so many different mediums is simply inspired. Through our talks he lifted the veil on a series of abstract works that knocked me off my feet and while talking about bringing these works to light he agreed to create a whole new series of abstract expressionist paintings that remind me of the mid-century modern design I’d see growing up in Southern California. The exhibit opens Oct 18. You won’t want to miss it!

We're in the final stages of completing our gallery, having spent the past year crafting a very diverse and carefully selected gallery program at @helmelstudios . During this process I met @boskohrnjak Known for one style of art, he's been privately tinkering on a new, original series of paintings. I am just so thrilled he's agreed to bless us with. But before you get to see any of that, he's going to visit the studio and share a slideshow of photos from the Salton Sea and ghost towns of mid-century architecture. Areas he's spent considerable time documenting and researching. valkilmerofficialIt's been a little while. You may have seen or heard some news this past week. To say the least, I've been busy. So many wonderful projects have launched and all the planning and hard work is starting to bloom. It was such a thrill to hear all of the news coming from San Diego Comic Con. I could hear the raucous celebration all the way in NY. It would have been wonderful to be there, though my commitment and dedication to the @twainmania Foundation opened an opportunity to speak at the United Nations, where I was asked to join a group of incredibly smart and caring people to find ways to make this world better. I'm so humbled by the experience and can't thank everyone enough for their generosity and spirit. Still so much more to come. Buckle up!!

Ironically, from all the way across the country, my father, Eugene D. Kilmer, was conscripted into the Air Force as an officer and also served in the South Pacific.

valkilmerofficialStaying an extra day to sight see in the greatest capital city on the planet. Not even the madman Napoleon created a city with the genius of the Lincoln memorial lined up with the Washington monument, and they are simply meaningless in photographs compared to being there in person and drinking in the Gettysburg address for example with his imposing sculpture perfectly reflecting his deep and penetrating humility. Our country is a meaningful treasure to inspire the entire planet, e en with the present almost mythic challenges we face today as a nation and around the planet. There will be no monument for this president, I’m guessing. Unless it’s made out of tears and sorrow and a shine of global embarrassment. I can see that. And it’s so hard to believe it’s not over yet.
valkilmerofficialCouple years ago already, I was privileged to be able to sing YESTERDAY with sir Paul McCartney and the lovely Rita Wilson live on stage for my dear friend Ben Donenberg’s fundraiser for his thriving La Shakespeare company. Rita and her talented husband Tom Hanks, who’s gonna make it just you watch. If he just keeps pluggin’ away he’s gonna make it. I’ve never been wrong about talent and if he keeps his head down and focuses on his strengths, is gonna make it, believe me. You heard it here first... and this sir Paul fellow has some interesting variety here and there. Lacks variety but that doesn’t matter in today’s crowded market, he can make it just bearing down one kind of idea. No need to try and be something you’re not. Sir Paul is a crooner. And lots o folk will love him for being content to just sound a certain way. It worked for Elvis...
