REPOST: @isastunts As many of you may already be aware, one of our members who has been a huge part of the Los Angeles Stunt Community, Merritt Yohnka, has been fighting cancer for some time, and it has been a rough, uphill battle. While Merritt and his family appreciate the respect of their privacy during this battle, there is a great need for good thoughts, prayers, and most importantly, blood donations. One thing the stunt community has never been afraid of is giving a little blood now and then!
In order to help step up and meet this need, the members of the International Stunt Association are planning a "Stunt Meet & Greet and Family Day" as part of a Blood Drive for Merritt Yohnka at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park on October 12, from 10 am to 4 pm. This will allow Merritt to continue to get transfusions through City of Hope as he is fighting this terrible disease, and all are encouraged to come out and show support for him and his family. To spend one night, just one, sleeping outside, on cardboard and concrete, is quite empathy building. Just in the US, every year, millions of teens are struggling thru a life of homelessness. It’s not okay. But, there are those who are actively fighting for these lives. @covenant_house is an incredible organization determined to not just solve the problem of youth homelessness, but also help mend the hearts, minds, and bodies of these young folks, and give them more than a fighting chance at living full, happy, productive lives. These folks are providing mental health education and resources to students on over 500 college campuses around the US, with the hopes of increasing that coverage to many, many more areas and lives. I truly believe that those particular years of growth in a young adults journey are some of the most fertile and valuable in successfully diagnosing and treating mental health issues. And, as someone who has dealt with mental health throughout my life, and who was blessed enough to be able to find the proper tools and healing that I needed in my darkest hour, I am fully committed to fighting for this cause for the rest of my life. In my humble opinion it is the most important thing we should be talking about. And quite frankly, I couldn’t stop talking about it if I tried. 💁 Go check out @active_minds in the link in my bio.
