zaziebeetzI know it’s been over a WEEK since the Oscars and will probably post more officially on it still, but just wanted to give a little shout out to the dream team first - @tyronmachhausen on makeup, @lacyredway on hair, @solangefranklin on styling, @thombrowneny on custom dress, and @bulgari on jewels. Truly, such wonderful collaborators and creative souls that I have the blessing to work and be friends with 🧚🏽♀️
zaziebeetzWHY HAVE I BEEN SCROLLING THROUGH MY CAMERA FOR 45 minutes trying to find a picture to post. Sorry for the caps. I just wanted to post something, just for fun, and then it became this whole thing. I wanted to post a baby picture, but then I was like: ....but then the world will have my baby picture HAS THE WORLD EARNED IT YEtttt???? DO I GIVE THIS LITTLE GIRL TO THE WORLD???? And then I was like okay eff this I’m going to post a meaningful throwback from earlier this year and write something genuine, and then I couldn’t do the multiple images in a way where all the photos cropped how I wanted them to crop (because of course, some were portrait and some were landscape), and I was like...this is not working for me. So I was going to post a different photo talking about the first time I braided my own hair earlier this year (using extensions), but I didn’t do that good of a job and I was like I don’t need 500,000 people telling me I did a bad job, so I’ve landed here. On this photo. It’s cute. I actually really love it. This is my personality, but It’s not too ~e m o t i o n a l l y~ revealing. Ya dig? THE PERFECT PUBLIC BALANCE, huh? But, I should take more risks. In general. That’s one of my life journey things.
Thank you @interviewmag for this little photo (amongst many other beautiful ones) that are a part of my Germany cover story. Thank you @lacyredway for helping me show off my curly curls, and thank you @tyronmachhausen for my classic dewy natural look. Love you both, really!! Thank you @lindholmrobert for the beautiful shots 🖤 okay, now onward with my night! About to do a YouTube workout video.

zaziebeetzAtl season 1, shooting in 2016, and my best friend @gabriellekwarteng came to visit me in my haunted house (we both heard the ghost walking upstairs, so don’t @ me) and supported me unwaveringly like how she has from the day I met her. I owe her some of the most formidable experiences in my life because she literally dragged me out bed and just had my BACK when I faltered. She is an INCREDIBLE dj, spinning vinyl globally because she is a light in the world and everyone who meets her sees it immediately. An empath, a cancer (with a drop of Scorpio, and you WILL NOT miss it, let me tell you), scary as hell, and I am SO GRATEFUL she is in my life, ma chérie Gabrielle! Just love you!!!! Anyway, gir, I know I’ve been bad I need to call you back. I’m going to in 20 minutes. Ok don’t know if you’re free right now wow I love you. Why are be being so fake in this photo? Je t’aime toujourrrsssss gros bisous

Using this vanity shot as a way to tell you all about some new new on climate change! (Exhilarating, I know..) BUT for all you beautiful New Yorkers, Governer Cuomo has the opportunity to pass a bill (CCPA- Climate Community and Protection Act) TOMORROW. It would require New York state to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, and this would make us a forerunner in sustainability! Wow wow so we just have to call him at 212 681 4580, and you can say something like “Governor Cuomo, I am a constituent calling to urge you to take action on the climate crisis by ensuring that the Climate and Community Protection Act gets passed this session”. I know that a lot of the vocabulary surrounding climate change sounds technical and removed, but this is all so RELEVANT and we need to collectively try to change the narrative that climate change feels boring and/or aloof. So if you’re an artist, make some art about an element of climate change that YOU care about and share it. Is it oceans? Indigenous communities losing their land? Health crises skyrocketing due to low air and food quality? Fires? Zero waste living? Reducing use of animal products? Promoting a bee friendly world? Sustainable fashion? I mean, the list goes on! Anyhow, stay inspired and stay fired up. @nrdc_org has a lot more info surrounding this stuff ♥️ (this picture was featured in @rollingstone btw with my magical team @lacyredway on hair and @tyronmachhausen on makeup. Have to give credit where it is due ;)
zaziebeetzWas going to post this yesterday anyway, but this new bill in Alabama really made this incredibly pertinent. Health care is a human right. Reproductive health care is a human right. We NEED safe, regular, and affordable access to basic reproductive care. These basic rights are being altered and challenged as we speak! I stand against the latest attack on reproductive health care because people deserve to hear ALL their options. I say this as someone who has required additional cancer screenings because I have been at risk in the past. What would have happened if I didn’t have the funds or the access to safe care? This is serious. So proud to join other artists to show support for health care access and the Title X program. Visit protectx.org/learn for more information. A couple of links in bio. #ProtectX

zaziebeetzMy beautiful brother is 12 and with the most caring soul. And he’s funny. I thought I would be sad to see him grow up, but he just becomes so more interesting and layered as each day passes- it has been a thrill watching him dip his toes into young adulthood. But let’s get him through middle school first ;)
My heart to you, my love. Your soul shines bright.
zaziebeetzHappy (almost) Earth Day my fellow earthlings! On Thursday our New York City council members voted and we are going to pass a historic retrofit bill that will help polluting buildings go green and will cut a third of nyc emissions by 40%. It’s the Dirty Buildings Bill- essentially real estate is the root of 70% of New York’s emissions, and only 2% of those buildings create HALF of all of that pollution. What the hell. But now we’re changing it! That’s Council member Costa Constantinides standing next to me- the man that drafted, wrote, and fought for this bill for the last ten years. And this is the most RADICAL legislation regarding housing emissions to be passed in the WORLD. The climate crisis affects the poor, minority communities, and the disenfranchised the most (if we’re talking about humans)- so let’s get together, and hold those accountable that need to make changes. Including ourselves. Apparently “Our Planet” on Netflix is good if you need inspiration. I still have to watch it. Anyhow, love y’all, my lecture at Beetz Academy is done. You’re now dismissed 🌏
zaziebeetzIf only politics/genetics/film industry had already caught up to Brandy’s Cinderella🦋 It’s on YouTube if you want to watch it. Almost brought a tear to my eye last night 💎 💙💙
zaziebeetzHad to repost this- thanks @maybeayacash ♥️♥️ reiterating what she said on her page: you can still vote even if you forgot to register! 🌹It’s reaallllyyyy raining out here today. Washing out the old, and in with the new!
zaziebeetzGood evening 🌕 I’m posting this as a reminder to register to vote, and then to make sure that you actually go and show up at the polls on November 6th. I know life is busy, but the last time that the midterm elections rolled around, I failed to make my voice count and did NOT vote (I don’t quite remember why, but I think I had a super early shift at work and was exhausted afterward, so I didn’t prioritize casting my ballot), and I have since felt guilty about that. This matters. You matter! Make room in your day. Make the room for it now. I will not be making that mistake again. You can register online at headcount.org, and the New York State deadline is TODAY- Friday, October 12th. If you have time to scroll through Instagram right now, then you have the time to go and register. I love you! Be well! Make your future BETTER. I’ll be hanging here waiting for you to get it done... 🍷
zaziebeetzOasis of calm #emmys2018 🖤 hair by @lacyredway • makeup by @patidubroff • styled by @jasonbolden • dress and earrings from @ralphlauren • love from @davidrysdahl • blessings and thanks to @atlantafx @fxnetworks and every kook that works on atl 🖤
zaziebeetzReal ones. This group of men is so creative, loving, and weird. I remember the weekend before I went to shoot season one, my boyfriend and I got into a fight, and it ended with me sobbing that he didn’t “understand that I was going to die when I go down there. There is only a black cloud in front of me and I am going to die.” I really believed that. There was nothingness in my future.
This was before I began seriously addressing my issues with anxiety. And look at this photo! I am so happy, so grateful to have gotten to know these open, questioning, searching, and brave souls. We have been on this journey together, and I am genuinely so happy about it. I didn’t die. There was no black cloud. Atlanta in the spring is actually quite floral! That helped me a lot. I’m not saying I had an easy time emotionally, but I really worked at trying to remain open and available to the world while not punishing myself for feeling out of place or like an imposter! I still get panic attacks, and need to manage my anxiety daily, but I understand his part of myself so much better now and can navigate those feelings a lot more efficiently and effectively. It’s never easy. Even with this new lifestyle. I’d actually say it’s been harder since my life changed- but it’s empowering to not deny this part of yourself and to give yourself permission to listen to your body, seek the help that you need, and approach self care in a way that honors your soul and your mind.
zaziebeetz💙matching in navy blue💙 we need to take more pictures together! I always feel so corny pulling out my phone and doing a selfie or asking someone to take one for us, but then I always appreciate it in hindsight. “Everything in moderation, including moderation” (i.e. snapping photos, sugar, napping...)
Honestly, I also get shy posting now. I used to post more often, but I feel so seen on this platform! So I’ll get picky, scroll through my photos back to 2014, realize none of them are interesting enough, and then just toss the whole idea away. But here’s a brand new photo! From last night. And I liked it very much ;)
zaziebeetzOKAY I SEE YOUUUUUUU. Now very excited after some existential crises last week ;) 💫 KEEP SHINING EVERYONE! Thank you for all of the positivity and the amazing beautiful artwork that I have been getting tagged in and your wonderful comments- I don't always interact and respond, but I see them and you have all been so ride or die (I also see when comments are negative so, um, yeah)
zaziebeetzYES I make my own kombucha, NO it's not better than storebought. See you cats in London and then Berlin for a little dp press ;) lives are changing in about a week!!! wtf losing our MINDS about it- I don't know what it's like to be famous?!!!!!
zaziebeetz"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children." Happy Earth day, earthlings. From us and our baby Coco to yours. But on a more serious note, we need to stop fucking around. The earth is dying and we are responsible. Avoid single use plastic, consume less meat and animal products, and tell corporations with YOUR dollar what you accept from them and what you don't. I actually may do a more in depth post in the future on the various ways you can reduce your carbon footprint, and affordable ways to try and do so. It's not about being perfect, but being mindful and making an effort. We have one home, and we are burning it down. There is no where else for us to go. It's not something to shrug off and think about later, or think that the "scientists" will figure it out. This is on each and every one of us. We are all responsible. This is our next greatest war. Yes there are so many things going on politically and socially, but in my mind, and maybe this isn't a popular belief, but this trumps them all. The space we live in now will look very different in fifty years, and we will be alive for it. Imagine what our children will see. By the way, we found Coco on the street as an adult cat and took her in. Literally scooped her up by hand and took her inside. She kept hanging around our apartment building for months and she needed a home. There are many ways you can get your little pets- so avoid breeders and take in strays, or find a farm nearby that just had an accidental litter. Or go to a shelter! Just thought that would be an additional little thing to mention.
